BE Offices clients and staff have participated for the 17th year in the City of London charity run.

On Tuesday 23rd July, we were delighted to field a team of 50 runners for the 2024 Standard Chartered Great City Race in what was our 17th consecutive year of participating. Our team comprised some BE Offices staff but primarily enthusiastic clients from across our London business centres, representing our serviced office, coworking and managed workspace brands, BE Offices, BE.Spoke and Headspace Group.

An enthusiastic 6,000 runners assembled in the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company, setting off in phases based on anticipated finish times. Runners travelled down Beech Street, right past BE’s Barbican business centre. The route took runners past some of the City’s most famous landmarks, including St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower 42 and the Bank of England., then along London Wall.

The race raises funds for Futuremakers, a global initiative to tackle inequality and promote greater economic inclusion for young people. One third of the entry fee from all participants is donated to the Standard Chartered Foundation, which helps to fund Futuremakers’ education, employability and entrepreneurship programmes around the world. Standard Chartered also matches the funds raised for Futuremakers from the event, doubling the impact of our participation!

          How Futuremakers makes a difference

Globally, more than 200 million young people – often disproportionately impacted by the challenges of inequality – are out of work or live in low-income poverty. Futuremakers by Standard Chartered is committed to enabling disadvantaged young people, especially girls and the visually impaired, to gain new skills and expertise to improve their chances of getting a job or starting their own business.

Following the race, it was a pleasure to host participants back to our nearby Beech Street centre with beers, prosecco and pizza to replace expended energy. First to return was Barbican client Jordan from BT Local Business with an impressive time of 19 minutes, 12 seconds shy of his colleague Geoff Kelly who was first back last year having achieved 18.48.

We were delighted to once again have been able to participate in this mainstay of our annual events programme and would like to thank everyone who joined our team and supported this fantastic event.
