Businesses based in office space in London and the rest of the UK which make their green credentials known may be able to attract and keep some of the best talent.
That’s according to the British Council for Offices (BCO), which said that an environmentally-friendly approach to work will appeal to a new generation of eco-friendly workers.
Paul Edwards, chair of the BCO’s sustainability group, said: “I think younger people these days understand environmental issues a lot more so therefore to attract talent and retain talent, companies are seeing a need to deliver on the environmental promise.”
A recent survey by Avery found that almost 50 per cent of workers believed their offices had become actively greener in a bid to cut costs in the current economic climate.
Cost-cutting green measures can include recycling, as it reduces the amount of material going to landfill, which will be taxed, and mobile working, which can result in less office space being used and therefore less power being used.
