Companies based in office space in Milton Keynes and beyond are being warned to be on their guard against spear phishing attacks on domains.
Get Safe Online has urged companies to be aware that phishing emails can affect them just as much as they affect individuals, but with wider influence.
Tony Neate, managing director of the initiative, said: “What we’re seeing with this are more and more targeted phishing attacks, which are called ‘spear phishing’. They actually target an individual domain or a company. This can happen in that area as well, so they are not just picking individuals, they will pick on companies as well.”
These comments from the organisation came after HMRC recently alerted taxpayers to a surge of fake emails, which have been sent out by fraudsters in the run-up to the looming deadline for the renewal of tax credits.
More than 46,000 of the emails have been reported to the government office since the start of the tax year in April.
